Guest P'cisT Guests Posted 27/04/04 01:39 PM Share Posted 27/04/04 01:39 PM I'm thinking of taking the XR6T up to the snow (Mt Buller). Just need some info from people in the know. Would it be drivable up there? I think tyre chains are compulsary? If so, won't they rub the guards!? You only need to fit them in adverse weather conditions ie snow , a decision made by the parks guys. I don't know about chains on your 17"'s though. When/if you fit them travel for about a km, stop and tighten them up. As an aside if you have an alarm of some sort turn it off or you may come back to a flat battery with heavy snow. If you are worried about damaging rim/guard, its fine unless you've lowered it heaps at the back(and even then you'd probably be ok). I Can't do it now with my 19's though, so I plan on chucking the 17's back on just for my snow trips. Only use good quality chains, preferably not the ghey ones you hire. Some places hire out good ones, just make sure they have the coloured protectors on the side. Preferably buy your own if you plan on doing lots of trips.Rob Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/10411-xr6t-and-snow/#findComment-116006 Share on other sites

Would make for an exciting ride on the ice with 240kw... Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/10411-xr6t-and-snow/#findComment-116151 Share on other sites

Guest Scootre Guests Posted 29/04/04 11:39 AM Share Posted 29/04/04 11:39 AM (edited) Yep, you're right. Exactly what the manual says: no chains. Beautiful, huh? The day I bought my XR6T, my missus said, "ooh it'll be nice to take the kids down to the snow this year in the new car...". Then I read "no chains sucker" and thought, 'oh great, now what do I do?'. FoMoCO really planned that well, didn't they?Pity you can't buy those nice metal-spiked tyres here... All excited. I figured I would check what brands of chains are good for this car on this forum. Now I hear Ford says NO CHAINS!!! What sort of bullsh** is this?! What happens if you do fit them as other members of this forum have sucessfully done? Do the wheels fall off? Does the car get a mind of its own and spear off into the scenery? Obviously not. What's the story? I figure I will be fitting good brand (well fitting) chains anyway. Will I have to keep a watch out for the sky falling in? This is rediculous!
