I've been advised to try the MOTUL 8100 X-CESS 5W-40 Synth with the XR6 N/A. Not as well known here therefore a little cheaper, around $50.00 per 5l bottle sounds better than $80.00 for what I'm currently using.Just wondering if anyone else has used this brand of oil and can comment on its performance?MOTUL Website

Can be a bit hard to get a hold of sometimes in terms of distributors, but also 5 litres for $50 seems reasonably cheap.Never heard of it being used on cars, but then again

It might be the thing.I know a few people, One mate has a R33 GT-ST Skyline that is loving the stuff, getting unbelievable performance from it. They are using the 4100 TURBOLIGHT 10W-40 grade. Another person I know that has a heavily modified Nissan 300 ZX, He swares by the stuff. Know a Rex driver using it and he has nothing but praise. Was hoping someone with the blue oval had tried the stuff.Aparently it is the ducks 'lower regions' over in Europe and USA and it's getting one good review after another. The stuff can be purchased @ AutoBarn plus there are distributors popping up in a few locations in Australia nowdays. The range is quite extensive. Guest cul08r Guests Posted 26/02/04 03:46 AM Share Posted 26/02/04 03:46 AM I think Auto One stock it here in NSW as well. I used to run it in my WRX and it was a great oil. I used the MOTUL 300V MOTORSPORt products, and my rex loved it for 50,000ks until I sold it. It is esther based oil, fully syn. @$130 for 6 litres."These lubricants are the result of the research and unequalled experience acquired by Motul in competition as well as the collaboration with several different manufacturer's technical departments. They offer professionals in competition several choices which allow them to optimise engine performance based upon the particular demands of each event. In everyday use, they are a guarantee of reliability and driving pleasure for amateurs and high-performance vehicles enthusiasts.Available in several grades of viscosity: 5W30 - 10W40 - 15W50 - 15W60"I know they are recommended by a number of European high performance vehicle manufacturers. I am running Shell Ultra at the moment, but will change to the compatible product soon, and see how it goes.Andrew

All I know from a bike perspective is that it is very good.Autobarn hey, who would have thought, learn something everyday

(And a little cheaper). The 8100 X-Cess also sounds good. It seems to be the "Gold Class" fully synthetic version covering the latest international standards, endorsed by BMW, Merc, Porche, VW.....etc. Designed for cars requiring a lower viscosity level.XR's @ 23,800kms (on the dot) and will probably change to Motul around 25,000. The oil I have dumped, man, not black yet but not far off. Mmmm, lovely! At least the decision is down to 2 products.
rex13bt Member 38 Member For: 21y 1m 20d Posted 28/02/04 08:23 AM Share Posted 28/02/04 08:23 AM (edited) It appears that the Motul 8100 X-cess 5w40 uses hydrocracked base oil, not PAO. Castrol Formula R 0W/40 uses PAO base oil and this is probably why it is much more expensive. If you wan't the equivalent Motul product go for Ester E-Tech 0W/40, even though it does not carry the latest spec's. The 4100 Turbolight 10W40 is a semi synthetic, take a look at the data sheet http://www.motul.com.au/product_line_up/4s.../4stroke12.html Edited 28/02/04 08:30 AM by rex13bt
