What type of oil should I use in my xr6 turbo?? which would be the best for ir??

I have nearly done 1000 km so I wanna change it real soon, they always say the first oil change is the most important!!

Probly do it again at 5000.

I am sure they change it for you at 3000 (your first service)

I BELIEVE (AND I HAVE HAD A LOT TO DO WITH OIL COMPANIES)

(dam my stubby fingers)

Your best bet is to use something like Type R or Mobil 1 etc,

something with 0/40, most the premium branded oil are great, Oh and by the way, research proves that when you change the oil your car drives better, Well at least, that's humans perception.

PS, Ford use Castrol Magnatec equiv in the car so if you want

something different , take it with you and ask them to place it in,

Hope this helps

No, the oil is not routinely changed at the 3,000k service.

However, I think most of us opted to change it anyway. I just went with Ford's recommendation R1-340 (15W-40) as supplied by the dealer. I don't know which oil company it is sourced from - has Ford label.

As it comes in 5 litre containers and the turbo takes 7 litres I have the container and about 3 litres of leftover oil. Guess I'll take it back to use at the next oil change at 9000 (half way between 3000 and 15000) so I'll only need to buy one 5 litre container. At least this confirmed the dealer was using the right stuff rather than bunging in the standard stuff (10W-30 - that they undoubtably buy in larger bulk quantities) and just charging me for the better stuff.

Cheers

zeke

PS I noticed the oil is labelled LPG 1540 and recommended for cars on gas - confirmed in the owner's manual that Ford recommend the same oil for LPG and Turbo cars.

Mate you have a hot running high temp engine, you need REDLINE, it costs about three times the price of mobil one but has a heat and crack sheer strength about twice that of mobil1. Pricey oil changes, but worn engines are a lot more costly

BP Visco 5000 5w40 synthetic oil at only $29.00 for four liters its half the price of Redline all Amsoil.

With the tempiture of 46C yesterday it handles the heat well in the out back.

I noticed on the filler cap of the demo my dealer had it had Mobil on it.

On my car now it says factory fill from Castrol ®.......I used Castrol in the T and will use it in the GT..........bloody good stuff.

If there are any Castrol people out there, a T shirt would be nice or a stubbie holder, years supply of oil.........anything!! ;);)

I know.....mercenary, but if you don't ask............ :banghead:

My car came back from its last service with a Castrol sticker on the windscreen. That's what they used to use for the Late model camira as well.

I would be waiting until the rings had fully bedded in before running anything synthetic. Then go for synthetic.

When its run in will depend on how it has been driven. My WRX STI normally isnt considered run in until after about 12500km. But trust me after being tuned on a 4 wheel dyno, it was well and truely run in at 9000km.

Cheers! :banghead:

Fact is guys, Ford service your car with Castrol, and they fill it with a reasonable oil but you are better off providing the oil, Oil is purchased based on price and the better the oil the more it costs, as hard as it is to believe, Ford are not putting the best oil in your car,

Go For Castrol Type R, "I dont need a Castrol Shirt but if you want send me one Castrol ;) "

I assure you if People like Victor Bray are using it then it is worth putting in your car.

As I said I work with the oil companies and to be honest and of the Synthetics are worth purchasing. dont skimp out on your car, oil is very important.

How have you found the Visco 5000? My Ford dealer said that Visco 5000 being 0W40 was to thin for the turbo and that it would cause it to burn oil.

What does everyone think?
