Where's The Boost

A mate of mine just bought a BF XR6 T Ute manual not knowing what they should run like. After driving it I realised it isnt making any boost...at all. Disconnected the plumb back at first and not a whoosh in sight. Plugged a boost gauge up and run it into the cab and went for a drive to find it made nothing above atmospheric pressure. The hoses are in good condition with no splits or cracks. The engine light is on constantly also. Has anyone had this happen to them.

Stuff that's really not good mate take it straight back to your dealer (or to any dealer if you bought it privately). I personally cant offer you any technical advice but that's what I would do without delay (p.s didn't your mate pick this up while he was test driving it or did he just not know what to expect? when he gets this fixed he will kick himself but at the same time be stoked with the change haha)

Yeah, exactly...the stooge at Ford in Townsville was turning the radio up and talking crap to distract him from what he was saying. He was basically in a rush to buy it and get back to Mount Isa for work the next day, so much that he didnt open it up on the test drive because the Ford guy was in the car with him. So now its at the Ford dealership here getting looked at.

I think it might be the wastegate actuator arm to gate flapper join come undone and the gate is wide open and therefore not spooling up hard enough and making any boost. We will find out this afternoon when Ford look at it.

Have had few with solenoids problems and give the same symptom,but if its still under warranty dont stress take back too the Ford dealer.

The big fellas happy with his new car at last..... He got his ute back from Ford, after being inspected and driven by their "A Grade mechanics" their diagnosis was a melted catalytic converter. So a new cat pipe was ordered under warranty. Unhappy with their diagnosis I decided to have a proper look for myself..my suspicions were confirmed when I pumped the wastegate actuator up and the rod flopped around like an epileptics leg! The E-Clip had fallen of the gate arm pin. Also during my "thourough" inspection, I found 2 of the nuts holding the turbo on were only finger tight and one was wound out 4 threads. All fixed last night and car pulls sweet. Who knows how long the previous owner drove the car like that for, and if that was the reason they traded it.

might be an idea to change the plugs too, if its been driven with no boost, chances are the pedal has been down more than normal to get it to move, maybe this has fouled the plugs a little too, can't hurt!

Not a bad idea Senna T . Its amazing though just how good they actually run off boost. Clint compared it to his old BA XR6 non turbo. On the drive back from Townsville he said he reached 190 kmph pretty quick and easily, and with the wastegate wide open no boost lol. They must be an awesome engine to begin with.

when I took mine for a test drive I didnt even have a ford stooge in the car with me and im a green P plater

he also let me take a vx SS home to pick up my old falcon for trade
